The musicians from Portland-based band Marion Grace have teamed up with local eco-fashion designer Meredith Alex, aka “madgirl”, for an unbelievable CD release event and fashion show called “Marion Grace Unleashes the MADness!” On March 20th Port City Music Hall will be transformed into part Bryant Park during fashion week and part rock concert mecca as Marion Grace release their debut record “Lying Down, Looking Up”. “Madgirl” will kick off the evening with an energetic runway show promoting her latest streetwear fashions for men. Also performing will be Maine music’s most popular funk/soul band Sly Chi and the current buzz of Boston, acoustic-rock band The Adam Ezra Group.

The fil rouge of the new collection is the rosette icon from the Gucci archives, which Giannini has reinterpreted across all elements. The motif originated as a broach during the 1980s when Gucci collaborated with the Fédération ?questre Internationale (FEI) to sponsor the Gucci Trophy for the best international horse-riding professionals. Before entering the archives, the rosette also gained popularity as a foulard. For her reinterpretation, Giannini has inscribed the symbol with Ms. Casiraghi’s initials, C.C., and applied it to the blazers, polos, buttons, saddle pads, rugs, fly veils, and blankets, as well as creating a one of a kind broach.

Charlotte Casiraghi commented, “I loved riding in the collection that Frida designed for me last year and I love this new wardrobe even more. It’s the best of sport and style.”

While they are working for the whole range of companies too, from London Fashion Week designers like Erdem to multimillion pound businesses like Marks and Spencers.

Joanne Tse who has a placement at Jaeger, London says: “There was a module in buying and merchandising where we would learn particular terms and phrases, and sitting next to a merchandiser and hearing them actually use the terms you learned at university, it’s like - 'oh, it’s real!'. It’s more fast paced than I thought it would be, too. Even now they’re starting to design for Autumn/Winter 2012. Every day is different and exciting.”

Joanne's Mentor, Carly Basil, Assistant Buyer for the Jaeger London womenswear team, who started her career at the label following a placement herself, says: “If you're prepared to pursue your chosen career, and like Joanne, you're willing to do an internship and put your all into it, then you will definitely be noticed'.
